UP to 100 students from the four areas that make up the People First Credit Union took part in the annual school quiz last week.

Twenty-four teams from the Credit Union common bond regions battled it out for the coveted titles in the Midland Park Hotel in Portlaoise. The common bond incorporates Portlaoise, Abbeyleix, Stradbally and Athy.

As always, it was a fun, competitive night for those taking part, with two categories based on age. Category A catered for those who hadn’t reached their 11th birthday before 31 December last, year while those in category B had to have reached their 13th birthday before the 31 December.

It was a nail-biting affair and after some tough questions Athy Model School emerged as winners of the competition after taking top spot with an excellent score in category B to took home the trophy, while a team from The Heath National School came in second place.

It was full marks for The Heath National School in category A, when they posted a great score. Not far behind and in second place was the Gaelscoil Phortlaoise team.

The evening finished with the four teams collecting their trophies and goodie bags, which were handed out to all who took part at the end of the night.

The four teams that qualified will now proceed to Tougher’s in Kildare for the regional round of the competition on Friday 2 March.
