Clonaslee/St Manman’s 2-19
CLONASLEE/St Manman’s got their Senior ‘A’ campaign off to a winning start in O’Moore Park on Saturday evening. The result caused a minor shock when they got the better of last year’s intermediate champions.
There was little to choose between the sides but Clonaslee/St Manman’s displayed the greater composure to pull away in the second half.
Clonaslee/St Manman’s opened the scoring with two points from John Rowney frees.
Trumera hit back and took the lead when Cathal Brophy got on the end of a long delivery to flick the sliotar past James Young and into the Rosenallis net.
John Rowney replied with another free but Trumera were to strike with a second goal when Rhys Murphy benefitted from a mix up in the Clonaslee defence and finish to the net. Murphy then added a point to put Trumera four points ahead.
Rory Conroy closed the gap with a point before John Rowney hammered Clonaslee/St Manman’s first goal. And they had the noses back in front when Ger Reilly sent the sliotar over the black spot, only to see his effort cancelled out immediately by Cathal Brophy.
Clonaslee/St Manman’s were back in front thanks to a John Rowney ’65 but the lead changed hands yet again as Paul McSpadden and Niall Sinnott were on target for Trumera.
The see-saw nature of the game continued as Michael Hyland struck a goal for Clonaslee/St Manman’s, with Ger Reilly adding a point to leave Clonaslee/St Manman’s leading 2-7 to 2-4 at half time.
The gap was down to the minimum soon after the restart thanks to points from Cathal Lalor (’65) and Cathal Brophy.
But all the while Clonaslee/St Manman’s looked that little bit sharper and began to open up a gap.
Points from Ger Reilly (2), John Rowney, Patrick Hyland, Darren Rooney and Glen McEvoy pushed Clonaslee/St Manman’s into a commanding lead.
Dylan Lalor, Paul McSpadden, Cathal Brophy and Joe Coogan points gave some little hope to Trumera but it was never going to be enough to deny Clonaslee/St Manman’s an important opening round win.
