THIS game finished with the worst possible result for Portlaoise. Having been relegated last year he Town were hoping to get their quest for a return to the premier ranks off to a positive start, but it was not to be.
And Portlaosie will know they let this one slip. Victory looked assured until a late lapse in concentration allowed Walter Murphy and John Maher strike for two late goals and give an unexpected win to Rosenallis.
Paddy Keating opened the scoring from a free, the first of eight points he would score over the hour.
Aaron Bergin eventually got Portlaoise off the mark to level affairs. Cormac Rigney added two points and Bergin converted the first of his five frees.
Simon Smith hit back for Rosenallis but it would soon go all wrong for them when they lost one of their most experienced players, Cathal C Fennell to injury.
But they did not let this dampen their determination. Paddy Keating, Ronan Murray and Brian Fitzpatrick all landed points.
Joe Phelan levelled the match but Keating converted a free to edge Rosenallis back in front.
Portlaoise got a touch of good fortune when Rosenallis keeper Stephen Kelly misjudged a long range shot from Cian Taylor allowing the sliotar bounce over him and into the net.
Aaron Bergin added another free for Portlaoise which was followed by a Dean Lynch point.
Almost immediately Simon Smith landed a good point to close the gap and leave the half-time score at Portlaoise 1-7 Rosenallis 0-7.
Cathal Duggan and Paddy Keating swapped points soon after the restart. Portlaoise keeper Eoin Nealon was then called into action, making two crucial saves to deny John Lennon.
Rosenallis were closing the gap as Brian Fitzpatrick and Paddy Keating landed points.
Two long range frees from Bergin and a fantastic pints from Taylor left Portlaoise three clear.
It remained at that as John Lennon and Aaron Bergin traded points.
Ten minutes from time the game took a dramatic twist.
Walter Murphy caught a long delivery, turned and shot to the back of the Portlaoise net to level affairs.
Bergin converted another free to put Portlaoise a point clear but Rosenallis were to take over as the game drew to a close.
Keating converted two frees, while Lennon landed another point. The icing n the cake came just before the end when John Maher found the back of the net.
Rosenallis now face Trumera in two weeks while Portlaoise will play Clonaslee.
