THE year got off to a great start with news that a Danish home retail brand ‒ which is seen a rival to Ikea ‒ is set to open in Portlaoise and create at least 12 full-time jobs.
As part of its global expansion, JYSK is set to open its 1,000 square metre store at the Laois Shopping Centre in Portlaoise. It will be located on the ground floor in units 22 A/B with its entrance opposite the Ken Black store.
While a company spokesperson told the Laois Nationalist that the initial jobs figure is expected to be 12, to include a store manager and deputy manager, “there may be more roles created depending on the opening hours and so forth”.
JYSK was founded in Denmark in 1979 by Lars Larsen. Over the past 40 years it has expanded to 51 countries with more than 2,700 stores worldwide employing 23,000 people.
The company’s first Irish store will open in Naas on 15 April, followed by two more in Drogheda and Navan, with the Portlaoise outlet opening this summer.
JYSK is currently looking to hire a deputy store manager and sales assistants for its Portlaoise store. Those interested in applying can do so by logging onto https://job.jysk.ie/.
