PLANNING permission has been approved to demolish and rebuild a house in Durrow to address safety issues at the junction of the Derry Road and the N77.

However, if the development does not proceed, councillors from the Borris-in-Ossory Municipal District were informed that the “council will explore options to improve this junction in consultation” with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

At the local authority’s December meeting, cllr James Kelly asked: “This council give details of what its proposals are to address the traffic congestion and road safety issues at the junction of the N77 and Derry Road near Durrow?”

Senior engineer Farhan Nasiem replied: “There is permission to demolish the house on the corner of this junction and set back the proposed new dwelling to improve the sight lines.

In the event that the landowner does not proceed with the development, we will explore options to improve this junction in consultation with TII.”

Cllr Kelly said: “Part of the planning permission is that the owner builds there and moves the house back in off the corner. I suggest the council contact the landowner and co-ordinate the relocation of the house.”
