THE connection of electricity to pedestrian and public lights at a crossing in Mountmellick has yet to be completed, despite work on the project beginning two years ago.

According to cllr Paddy Bracken, the project hasn’t been completed

because “they haven’t come back to finish the work”.

Now cllr Bracken wants Laois County Council “to request a completion date from ESB Networks regarding the connection of public lights and pedestrian crossing lights at Emmet Street, Mountmellick”.

He told fellow councillors at the December meeting of Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal District: “The job has been ongoing for the past two years. It’s totally unacceptable to be two years into it and no final work has taken place. It’s totally unacceptable to me.”

In a written reply, senior engineer Farhan Nasiem said: “A letter will be issued to ESB Networks’ Portlaoise office for a response.”

“I don’t know it a letter will make any difference,” said cllr Bracken. “They just haven’t come back to finish the work.”
