ACCLAIMED Abbeyleix artist Darren Graham is to host a short series of art classes for beginners at the town’s historic Heritage House.

The fun and friendly sessions will be held from 10.30am until noon every Wednesday morning for six weeks, from 23 January until 27 February.

A self-taught artist who runs the local Ephraim Art Studio, Darren aims to encourage beginners to “access the art within” during the relaxed and enjoyable classes. Techniques will start with drawing skills, followed by watercolour painting. There will be a maximum of ten students and the cost is €70, which includes materials.

An accomplished musician/songwriter, Darren graduated in performing arts (music) from Ballyfermot College of Further Education in Dublin and says he “found” his ability to paint in 2005. A fine-detail watercolour artist, he staged his first art exhibition in Co Kildare in 2006 and today works as an artist full-time.

His creative inspiration comes from music, nature, the Laois countryside, animals and the intersection of “nature and human”, which he translates into exquisitely detailed fine art watercolour paintings.

Booking for the beginners’ course is essential as places are limited and can be made by contacting Darren ON 086 6038090 or [email protected]
