A NEW heritage plan for Ireland is being prepared and the people of Laois have been invited to make a contribution.

Those interested in taking part and finding out more about the plan and how they can have a say are invited to public information sessions in Portlaoise Library on Thursday 7 February from 3pm to 7.30pm. Laois heritage officer Catherine Casey will provide information on the plan and how best to make a submission.

Ms Casey said: “This is a great opportunity for the people of Laois to have their views heard on the future management and promotion of heritage in their own local area. Future priorities and, of course, funding for the heritage sector will be guided by the results of this consultation, so we would really encourage as many people as possible to get involved.”

The new Heritage Ireland 2030 plan is based around three themes: national leadership, supporting stronger heritage partnerships, building community and local involvement in heritage.

The final plan will shape the policy to guide the government’s heritage priorities and investments over the next decade and beyond.

Direct submissions are also being accepted by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and can be directed online to www.chg.gov.ie/heritage.
