PORTARLINGTON, Emo and Killenard will again have a Labour Party candidate who intends taking a seat on the Graiguecullen/Portarlington Municipal District in the forthcoming local elections.
Eoin Barry, who is from Killeshin, will attempt to take one of the six seats. Firstly, however, he has to be formally endorsed at Labour’s selection convention, which takes place later this month.
The 35-year-old is a social worker in the field of child and adolescent mental health, having previously been employed as an aftercare project worker with the homeless charity Focus Ireland.
Mr Barry has served as the national chairperson of Labour Equality and is a member of the party’s national executive.
He was also the Laois organiser for Michael D Higgins’s presidential election campaign and has taken part in recent referendums on marriage equality and abortion.
In the 2014 election, Portarlington-based Labour candidate Gráinne Corcoran failed to win a seat.
