A PRIMARY school pupil from Laois has won a national poster competition.

Sam Thompson from Derrylamogue NS was named as senior national winner in the Stay safe, stay clear with ESB Networks poster competition.

The judges made their decision on Sam’s creative design, which focused on safety. His creation was one of 220 designs from primary schools all over Ireland.

More than 4,500 pupils put pencil, crayon and paint to paper and created highly imaginative and creative designs.

At the start of the school year, ESB Networks invited budding artists in primary schools nationwide to create designs featuring one of the company’s six electricity safety tips.

Last week, ESB Networks attended Sam’s school in Rosenallis to present him with his prize and also a framed print of his winning design.

His winning poster also featured in the Stay safe, stay clear with ESB Networks calendar along with the designs of ten other primary school pupils.

ESB Networks public safety manager Arthur Byrne said: ‘The poster created by Sam illustrates the message of our safety tips in a really creative and imaginative way.
