A CANADIAN-based company is set to bring up to 25 jobs to Portlaoise.
Last week, Laois County Council approved planning permission to Greenfield Global LFS Ireland Ltd to set up operations from the IDA Business Park on the Mountrath Road.
The company operates in 15 locations around the world with more than 500 employees and wants to set up a blending and packaging facility on a 4,000 square meter site at the local business park, half of which will be used for manufacturing purposes.
It is Canada’s largest manufacturer and distributor of fuel ethanol, industrial alcohol and alcohol-related products.
Greenfield specialises in chemicals, ingredients and distilled spirits in such operations as renewable energy and agribusiness, where it processes renewable resources into low-carbon fuels and chemicals.
Along with regional municipalities in Canada, the company operates a large-scale anaerobic digester facility, which processes 40,000 tonnes of organic waste into bio-methane. Another of the company’s ethanol plants generates Co2 from fermentation as well as excess heat energy from its grain drying operations and pipes its excess Co2 from the plant into its nearby tomato greenhouse facility to boost tomato growth.
Work is expected to begin on the Portlaoise site later this year should no objections be lodged with An Bord Pleanala.
