A SPECIAL night of music in memory of a much-loved Abbeyleix man has raised vital funds for a charity that was close to his heart.
There was a full house at the Manor Hotel for the wonderfully uplifting concert in honour of Tom Bonham, who sadly died from multiple sclerosis in March last year. All funds raised by ‘An Evening with Spink Comhaltas and Friends’ on Saturday 30 March will go towards the Laois branch of MS Ireland, which supports MS sufferers and their families throughout the county.
More than 100 senior and junior members of Spink Comhaltas, together with the Abbeyleix/Ballyroan choir, presented a magical and varied night of music, ranging from traditional and orchestral favourites to popular songs such as Love changes everything and Blowin’ in the wind.
Traditional and poignant favourites included Tabhair dom do lámh and Mo ghile mear, while the Ballyroan Halfset dancers also gave terrific performances on a truly memorable night in Abbeyleix.
Thanking everyone who supported the event, Paul Lynch of the Spink Comhaltas committee said: “It was a brilliant night. The concert was by the community for the community and it was a fantastic occasion. We’d like to thank everyone who performed or who supported it in any way, whether through sponsorship, donating raffle prizes or by coming along on the night. We were really humbled by the level of support.”
The hugely successful Spink Comhaltas group has more than 130 members and provides comprehensive music classes from beginners to adults of all ages. As always, the group will hold its popular summer seisiúns every Wednesday evening in July/August at Heritage House in Abbeyleix.
