OIL cans and greasy rags have been doing overtime as members of Raheen Vintage Club have been busily preparing for the road run on Sunday 14 April.

The run begins from Colt GAA grounds in Raheen at 12.30pm, with registration from 11am.

Owners of vintage cars or tractors as well as any mode of transport are most welcome to take part. The registration fee is €20 per vehicle.

Donation buckets as well as a raffle will also be held, with the proceeds going to the Laois Alzheimer’s Society Resource Centre at 47 Main Street Portlaoise.

The club is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year and its officers are Chris Goode, president; Eddie Moffitt, secretary; and Seamus Cranny is the treasurer.

Each year, the club holds several fundraising events such as vintage runs, a ploughing day or a vintage show with the funds going to different charities.

A spokesperson for Laois Alzheimer’s Society thanked members of the vintage club for nominating their organisation as the beneficiary of the day’s fundraising efforts.

The resource centre is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. It provides support for families dealing with dementia and its support group meets on the third Wednesday of every month from 7.30pm to 9pm. It also operates a social club on the second and fourth Thursday.

For more information on dementia, please contact Ann Munnelly on 057 8663398/086 8372168, write to the homecare co-ordinator, 47 Main Street, Portlaoise or email [email protected].
