ARLES Kilcruise continue their late rally to avoid relegation when they made it back-to-back victories when getting the better of St Joseph’s last Thursday night. And it was one cracking contest with the men in maroon held out and hang on for vicotry by the narrowest of margins.
The home side wasted no time in making their intent obvious when they opened the scoring in the first minute through Dylan Waters. That was doubled when Fran Egan’s sideline ball found Caomhan Brennan and he split the posts.
A Fran Egan free put three between the sides with just five minutes played but St Joseph’s were never going to lie down. Jason Campion settled them with their first point of the day. A point from a Brian Daly free followed by one from play by Peter Kealy saw the sides level at the end of the first quarter.
Chris Conway edged Kilcruise back in front from a free and with Waters landing his second point they were back in front. Dylan Doyle reduced the deficit with a well-struck point.
There was some degree of drama approaching half time with both sides being reduced to 14 within a minute of each other, both for second yellow card offences. St Joseph’s had Josh Lacey dismissed two minutes before the interval, and Arles Kilcruise’s Kevin Meaney departed a minute later.
Conor Kealy and Fran Egan exchanged points in the final minutes as the home side led 0-6 to 0-5 at the break.
St Joseph’s wasted no time in getting back level through a Daly point, and then went in front for the first time through Dylan Doyle’s point. David Conway and Egan traded points with Daly and Peter Kealy before a Chris Conway free levelled the the game once again.
Points from Chris Conway and Daly maintained the status quo before David and Chris Conway handed Kilcruise the initiative with time running out for the Saints.
Brian Daly and Egan went on to exchange points and still there was two between them as the clock ticked towards the hour mark.
Arles Kilcruise were under severe pressure when Dylan Doyle closed the gap to the minimum. St Joseph’s went in search of an equaliser but the Kilcruise held solid for a victory that eases some of the pressure on them.
