John Kelly and Kate Brickley winners of the Cuisle Golf Classic with Kate Foster and sponsor Donal O’Gorman

THE Cuisle Centre is a cancer support centre located in Portlaoise that helps all those diagnosed with cancer and also their family and carers. It is through fundraising events like this event in The Heath Golf Club that patients can receive information, support and therapies free of charge at the centre.
Ann Cashen, organiser of the golf classic, thanked Heath Golf Club Captain Siobhán Bergin Corri for choosing the Cuisle Centre as her charity for a fundraising day in the club on Tuesday 16 July. A total of almost €5,000 was raised for this worthy cause with 44 teams taking part in the Champagne Scramble competition.
Ms Cashen also thanked The Heath Golf Club for giving the course free of charge for the day. She had a big thank you for Donal O’Gorman of O’Gorman’s Bar and Restaurant, Kilminchy and The Bog Road, Fairgreen who sponsored all the wonderful prizes for the competition for a third successive year.
Donal presented the prizes and said he was very happy to do so and to give something back to the community.
The main sponsor of a raffle which took place on the night was John Conroy of Heart ER Ambulance Service. Other sponsors included Finline Furniture, Social Committee/Captain Paul O’Callaghan, Adare Manor and Mountrath Golf Clubs.
Ms Bergin-Corri said that fundraising can be difficult at the best of times but is made easier when the activity is enjoyable. The favourable weather on the day and a friendly competition ensured that the event was a success. She thanked all the members of The Heath Golf Club, their friends and also our neighbouring golf clubs for supporting the event.
