THREE communities gathered for a wonderful family fun day and barbecue, which raised vital funds for schools and parish buildings in Arles, Ballylinan and Killeen.

The Arles parish fundraiser, held in the beautiful grounds of Coolanowle country house and organic farm, served up a magnificent menu of food and entertainment for children and adults of all ages.

The sun came out for most of the afternoon and downpours stayed away until the closing stages of the event on Sunday 4 August. The beautiful venue near Ballickmoyler hosted endless entertainment, with sports, children’s games, face painting, live music and dancing, a barbecue with mouth-watering organic foods, delicious home-baked cakes and a raffle for a fantastic array of prizes, including two coveted tickets to the All-Ireland football finals.

The memorable day raised funds for no fewer than three schools, three churches and five community halls throughout the large rural parish. The proceeds will support all   three primary schools, churches and halls in Arles, Ballylinan and Killeen, as well as the community centre in Ballylinan and the hall based in the old school at The Rushes.

The Arles pastoral committee thanks everyone who made the parish fundraiser such an enjoyable success, particularly sponsors, ticket sellers, those who donated prizes and purchased tickets and everyone who attended the event.
