THREE extra bus services have just been added to travel through Borris-in-Ossory, The Pike of Rushall, Castletown and Mountrath.

Welcoming the additional buses, which were added on Sunday 1 September and being provided by Laois/Offaly Local Link, Fine Gael TD and minister for justice Charlie Flanagan said: “I am keen to ensure that local people have local services. This is a positive step in the right direction to provide additional bus services in the early mornings and evenings for bus users in Borris-in-Ossory, Pike of Rushall, Castletown and Mountrath.

“Since the withdrawal of services by bus operators JJ Kavanagh’s on this route earlier this year, a temporary bus service has operated on the route. I am pleased that a new service is now operating.”

Minister Flanagan said that the new services will operate Monday to Saturday between Portlaoise and Roscrea (departing 6.50am and 8.45pm) and Roscrea and Portlaoise (departing 7.20pm). In addition, the bus will stop on the Mountrath Road for Portlaoise College and Portlaoise institute. These services are in addition to the current timetable which has been operating on the route.

“I want to commend Laois Offaly Local Link for their continued commitment on the route. I will continue to advocate for additional services on the route, particularly in the evenings and early mornings. Bus services are of vital importance to rural communities in Laois,’’ said minister Flanagan.
