FUN and games were the order of the day when up to 150 people gathered at Conor Davis Park in Mountmellick recently for the annual Fit Fest BBQ Family Fun Day.

The event was organised by the Laois African Support Group (LASG) and plenty of sporting activities were on offer, including zumba, trampolines, kids’ races, table football, basketball, beer pong, giant Jenga, sack racing and badminton.

All smiles at Conor Davis Park Mountmellick were Katia, Fatima, Caesar, Zeh and Monde

DJ Matt had everyone bopping, while the barbecue stands were kept extremely busy with punters enjoying hot dogs and burgers.

Sia Fayiah, one of the organisers, said that many people came from direct provision centres and emergency accommodation facilities.

She said that the LSAG was supported by the Reception and Integration Agency (RIA), which supplied transport for many who attended. All of the other events on the day were funded by the organising group.

Ms Fayiah said that LASG usually meets once a month and she invited anyone who is interested in joining to do so by phoning 087 3880688, or 085 1337338. For more information check out or visit their Facebook page.
