A COLOURFUL morning in Stradbally brought an inspirational air of calm and creativity to a group of young artists.

The mindful colouring event in the town’s library was one of the most popular initiatives held during Laois Connects week, a varied countywide programme of events to promote health and wellbeing.

Mindful colouring is regarded as a fun and simple way to help both children and adults to live in the present moment and bring more calmness into their lives.

Julia Shead and Denise Kinsella organisers of the event.

Art therapy is a great way to allow children time to create and relax at the same time. While lifting the mood and decreasing anxiety, mindfulness colouring can help develop fine motor skills. It’s also a great way to reduce stress and anxiety, giving people time to reflect and enjoy something simple.

The Stradbally event on Saturday 12 October guided participants in how to use mindfulness and colouring as a way to improve concentration and promote relaxation. As well as producing beautiful works of art, they also learned valuable skills that will remain with them for life.
