A MEMORABLE night of music in Killeen will help to refurbish a 72-year-old classroom at St Abban’s NS.

Killeen parish church was beautifully decorated for the fundraising gala concert on Thursday 24 October, which featured three talented local choirs and the renowned Garda Band.

The In Cantorum choir, directed by Eileen Doyle and accompanied by Aidan Farrell, was joined by St Abban’s NS school choir and Killeen parish choir at the wonderful choral event. Among many highlights was a magnificent solo performance by tenor Seán O’Mahony, a community garda based in Athy.

Funds raised by the concert will go towards refurbishment of a St Abban’s NS classroom dating back to 1947, which is currently used by third- and fourth-class pupils. The upgrade costing up to €30,000 will include dry-lining and window replacement. Some funds will also support the ongoing guided reading scheme at the school.

St Abban’s NS principal Seán Ó Dúlaing thanked everyone who helped to organise the concert and the large crowd that supported what was a very special event for both school and parish. He said: “Everybody went home happy after a wonderfully successful concert. It was a great community effort and a very enjoyable night.”
