DUNAMAISE Arts Centre’s Open Submission Exhibition is in full flight and continues until Saturday 4 January.

The showcase features artwork that has been selected by guest curator Robert Armstrong, including 150 pieces by more than 70 artists in a wide variety of media by artists from all over Ireland.

As is now the established practice, one artist was offered the prize of a month’s residency at Laois Arthouse in Stradbally, which offers the opportunity of focusing on creating new work in a state-of-the-art studio.

This year’s open submission winner was Seán O’Rourke, a multi-award winning artist. His collections are in the National University of Ireland, Maynooth University and Kennedy Wilson Irish Art collection.

Next year, the Dunamaise Arts Centre will seek applications for new solo and group gallery exhibitions for a three-year period up to 2023.

The centre also presents a monthly artist showcase in the less formal surrounds of its Caffe Latte space.

Other regular events at the Portlaoise venue include artists’ talks and professional development workshops. There are also endless ways to take part in visual arts activities, with weekly classes for all ages.
