WHAT has become an annual occasion in the Ballacolla area lived up to its name when hundreds of people took part in the New Year’s Day event.

Off the Beaten Track, an all-encompassing local fundraiser, involved almost 400 participants, which included 55 modern and vintage tractors, ten bikes, two pony and traps, and horses and hounds from the Laois Hunt.

The organisers thanked all who took part, including the registration officers, Glanbia for providing parking facilities, all of the stewards along the route, those who manned refreshment points at Harvey’s Cross and David Lalor’s yard and the catering crew in St Patrick’s Hall.

A total of €2,500 was raised for local causes.

The raffle prizes were sponsored by Glanbia, Ashbrook Arms, Kirwan’s Bar, Manor Stone Garden Centre and M&M Moynan.

The prize winners were Brian Kirwan, Seán Duggan, Joe Walsh, Rory Conway and Emma Keane.
