Veteran Laois FF TD Seán Fleming has said that Fianna Fáil supported Fine Gael in government for far too long and it took its toll at GE2020. At the count centre in Portlaoise, he told the Laois Nationalist: “We were seen as too close to FG in government for the past 4 years. The ‘confidence and supply’ agreement between FG and FF was the right decision for the first year or so, to give the country stability but it went on for far too long.”
While his first preferences are down on 2016, when he did not have a running mate, Deputy Fleming will be returned to the Dáil comfortably, with final tallies giving him 11.1% of first preferences in Laois-Offaly.
