A HAIR-RAISING night in Stradbally raised lots of laughs as well as a substantial sum for the St Colman’s NS pitch development fund.
Stradbally Town AFC played a blinder at its sponsored head and beard shave in Napper Tandy’s, as valiant victims generously sacrificed their luxurious locks to support the cause.
No hair was safe at the fun wax/shave event on Saturday 8 February, which also provided great entertainment in the form of music and dancing with live DJ PJ Dempsey.
The soccer club also generously donated €500 from its split the pot draw to the school’s pitch development fund, resulting in an even bigger contribution to the St Colman’s NS Lip Sync team’s overall target of €50,000.
The enjoyable night was just one of many ongoing fundraisers as individuals and groups come out in force to support the school, reflecting an incredible community spirit in the town and surrounding areas.
The fundraising drive will culminate with the eagerly-awaited LipSync Battle in the Midlands Park Hotel on Saturday 29 February, which will be the biggest fundraiser ever undertaken by the school. Judges will include critically acclaimed actor Johnny Ward, who made it to the finals of Dancing with the Stars last year.
Back in 2016, a two-acre site was purchased at the side of the school thanks to funds donated by Electric Picnic organisers Festival Republic. The parents’ council had the bright idea of holding a Lip Sync Battle to raise funds, in order to develop the newly acquired facilities further. Works will include a perimeter wall to separate the pitches from the planned new housing estate and the development of an all-weather facility, with a full-size astro pitch and a grass pitch. It’s envisaged that the new sports pitches will also be available for community use.
