PUPILS from Shanganamore NS in Barrowhouse will compete in the regional final of Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s One Good Idea on Monday 24 February in the Omniplex Cinema, Cork.

The school team will present their film project Team Material Matters, which shows the energy and human resources used in producing sustainable clothing versus those used in non-sustainable fast fashion.

The finalists created a one-minute film and campaign in an attempt to inspire people to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. The pupils will see their film on the big screen and present their campaign to a panel of judges.

The competition encourages pupils, their families and communities to take individual and collective responsibility for tackling climate change.

The children learn important skills in communication, film-making and creating change at a community level. This year, more than 180 campaigns were developed by young people from all over Ireland. In the last ten years, over 1.5 million people in Ireland have been reached by the projects put together by 7,500 inspiring schoolchildren.
