LAOIS has one new case of confirmed Covid-19, according to figures announced this evening.

The new case brings the county’s total number of Covid-19 infections to 259 since the pandemic began.

Reported coronavirus cases in Laois have risen by only three in the past week. Exactly one week ago, on Sunday 24 May, there were 256 confirmed cases in the county. The total increased by one on Tuesday, Wednesday and today.

There is always a two-day timelag in the figures announced daily by the Department of Health. Today’s local and national figures relate to Friday 29 May.

With just 1% of the national total, Laois has a particularly low level of Covid-19 and the past week has seen a marked decline in the number of cases reported daily. Four of the past seven days saw no increase in the county’s total cases.

Nationally, the department reported this evening that two more people have died from Covid-19, bringing the death toll to 1,652. Another 66 cases were confirmed nationwide, bringing the total to 24,990.
