THE number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Laois remained at 260 today, for the second day in a row.
As the county prepares for a fast-tracked lifting of many lockdown restrictions from next Monday, there was no rise again today in the number of confirmed cases in Laois.
Since Friday 22 May, the daily number of reported cases in the county has never been higher than one.
Only two new cases have been confirmed in Laois in the past week and five of the past seven days saw no rise in the county figures.
As reported in the Laois Nationalist earlier today, An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has announced an accelerated lifting of lockdown restrictions from next Monday
National figures announced this evening show that seven more people have died and there are 28 new cases. The total of Covid-19 related deaths since the pandemic began is 1,670 and there have been 25,163 confirmed cases.
HSE National Director of Acute Hospitals Liam Woods commented: “Thanks to the collective efforts of everyone in Ireland, the healthcare system has withstood the challenge that this virus posed at the outset of this crisis. We must keep up the good work to ensure we remain vigilant against a second surge of Covid-19.”
