LAOIS County Council is to take over the running and management of the Landfill and Civic Amenity Recycling Centre at Kyletalisha just off the Portlaoise to Mountmellick Road.

The Executive Officer of Laois County Council John Mulholland informed councillors at their July monthly meeting that “As and from Monday 10 August Laois County Council will take control of the day-to-day management and operation of the Portlaoise Amenity Civic Amenity site. This will conclude the existing contract arrangement with AES Limited, who are the operators of the site. The change will not give rise to any discernible reductions in operations at the site which will continue as existing.”

He told councillors that all waste monitoring is being carried out on the site and is up to date and that a recent Environmental Protection Agency audit at the landfill, “yielded no areas of particular concern.”
