In the recent census on properties around the county, that was undertaken by the CSO in 2016, it found that in total there were 3,007 identified as being vacant.
That’s according to the Vacant Homes Officer with Laois County Council Gerry Ryan who was replying to cllr Tom Mulhall’s question on the number of such vacant residential and commercial properties at the recent meeting of councillors that was held in the Dunamaise Arts Centre in Portlaoise.
Mr Ryan said that in 2016 from the 3,007 properties identified as vacant – 2,705 were houses and 302 were apartments.
He said that December 2017 figures released by GeoDirectory identified 1,514 vacant properties in Laois.
