LAOIS GAA took the pre-emptive step to cancel tonight’s championship game’s in response to the Government’s decision to impose a lockdown from midnight.
Speaking on RTE’s news Laois GAA Chairman Peter O’Neill said decision was taking because if the Coronavirus threat “was an issue after midnight, it was an issue before midnight”.
The partial lockdown will see all sporting fixtures in the three counties cancelled for the next two weeks.
Graiguecullen and Arles Killeen were due to play in their first round senior football championship in MW Hire O’Moore Park tonight while Clonaslee/St Manman’s and Mountmellick intermediate first round game was due to be played in Mountmellick.
As a result of the restrictions none of the football championship games down for decision this weekend will go ahead.
Laois GAA now face the difficult decision as to how, when of if the championships will recommence.
