The Dunne’s Stores outlet in Rathdowney

By Carmel Hayes

GARDAÍ in Portlaoise are investigating a burglary at a Laois supermarket last night.

The incident was one of two break-ins that were carried out after midnight at stores in Laois and Offaly.

Thieves hit the Dunne’s Stores outlet in Rathdowney between 12.30am and 1.30am. Gardaí are seeking people’s assistance if they were in the area and noticed anything suspicious at the relevant times.

They are particularly seeking dash cam footage from any motorists who drove past the supermarket between 12.30am and 1.30am this morning. Anyone who noticed an unfamilar vehicle parked near the store is also asked to contact gardaí.

Gardaí have not disclosed whether property or cash was stolen during the break-in. Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Portlaoise gardaí at 057 8674100.

Meanwhile, the Daybreak Store in Mucklagh, Tullamore was also broken into between midnight and 1.30am overnight. It is not clear at this stage whether the two burglaries are linked.

Anyone who passed by either location at the relevant times, particularly those with dash cam footage, is asked to contact Tullamore gardaí on 057 9327052, Portlaoise gardaí or any garda station.
