One of the dispensers that was ripped off a wall at the Lions AFC grounds in Durrow

A LAOIS soccer club says it is “absolutely sickened” by mindless vandalism at its clubhouse and grounds this weekend.

Members arrived at the Lions AFC premises in Durrow today to find hand-sanitising dispensers ripped off walls and thrown around the grounds.

Another dispenser installed at the gates was also ripped off and discarded. Like other sports clubs and organisations, Lions AFC installed the wall-mounted dispensers as part of the battle against Covid-19.

The club now has to go to the trouble and expense of replacing all the dispensers that were destroyed during the vandalism spree.

Posting pictures of the destruction on its Facebook page tonight, Lions AFC said: “We as a club are absolutely sickened at this mindless vandalism in our club grounds today.

“As a club, we have made every effort to protect our players, members and visitors alike in the fight against Covid. But there are some individuals out there who think it’s right to vandalise property that doesn’t belong to them.

“This is not the first time this has happened. If any member of the public sees any unusual activity around the club, please contact a committee member.”

Anyone with information that could identify the culprits or who witnessed the vandalism is asked to contact the Lions AFC committee or gardaí.
