ANOTHER 19 Covid cases have been confirmed in Laois.
This evening’s figures show that the county had 19 new cases in the 24 hours up to midnight last night.
The increase gives Laois a 14-day incidence of 212.5 cases per 100,000 people, compared to a national rate of 291.
There were 180 new cases in the county during that 14-day period.
Yesterday, the Department of Health also announced 19 new cases in Laois during the previous 24 hours. However, this evening’s county breakdown shows that five of those cases were denotified, giving an increase of of 14 rather than 19 on Tuesday.
The cases announced this evening bring total Covid infections in Laois to 712 since the pandemic began.
Nationally, three deaths and 1,167 additional cases were reported this evening. There are 263 in Dublin, 142 in Meath, 137 in Cork and 86 in Cavan. The remaining 539 cases are spread across all other counties. 64% are under 45 years of age and the median age is 33.
As of 2pm today, 314 Covid patients are hospitalised, including 34 in ICU. There have been 27 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.
Portlaoise hospital had eight confirmed Covid patients last night, including two in ICU. There was also one suspected case in ICU.
Total deaths nationally since the pandemic began have reached 1,868, with cases at 53,422.
HPSC figures show that over 94% of those who died with Covid-19 had an underlying medical condition. The vast majority of people have recovered from the infection.
