A PERFECT pooch from Portlaoise has scooped the county Puppy of the Year title.
Four-legged friend Kyra was unveiled as 2020 Laois Puppy of the Year by Petmania Portlaoise yesterday.
The competition was ruff but Kyra beat off a talented pack of local dogs that included Ned the Corgi, Akita Klaus, Harvey the Golden Retriever and Piper the Bernese Mountain Dog.
Now Kyra will go forward for a chance to win the national title and prizes worth over €1,500, including a luxury staycation at the dog-friendly Enniscoe House, Mayo thanks to Ireland’s Blue Books.
The 2020 Puppy of the year competition received a massive 31,051 votes, of which, 3,158 votes came from Laois.
Delighted owner Jacinta Parkinson said: “Kyra loves and shows affection to everybody she meets and cuddling is her favourite hobby. She loves both children and the elderly.
“Little Kyra sleeps all through the night, quiet as a mouse. She really is the newest member of the family and would be very happy to cuddle and give all the Petmania customers cuddles and kisses too!”
Kyra will go forward to the Grand Final to be adjudicated by a panel of experts. The national winner in the Petmania Puppy of the Year 2020 will become the face of the brand for 2020/21 and receive prizes worth over €1,500. The winner will be announced via Petmania’s social media channels on Friday 20 November.
