A 35-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with rape in Laois.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victim, appeared before yesterday’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
The alleged rape occurred on 23 March last year at a location in Laois, which also cannot be identified to protect the alleged injured party.
The accused was sent forward to the current sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
He was released on bail, with conditions attached that he must have no contact with the alleged injured party, sign on once a week at the garda station, reside at his listed address and provide the gardaí with a telephone number.
One junior counsel and one senior counsel were assigned to his defence.
