EMERGENCY crews from across Laois came to the rescue of an elderly man out walking in the Slieve Blooms today.

Portlaoise gardaí and a range of other services responded to an emergency call, after the 85-year-old got into difficulties while walking with his family.

The Laois Fire and Rescue Service, Laois Civil Defence volunteers and the National Ambulance Service attended the scene at Monicknew Wood, in the Slieve Bloom Environmental Park. They were assisted by the Laois Roads Policing Unit and gardaí from Portlaoise.

All emergency teams worked together in the successful rescue. Gardaí confirmed later that the man made it back safely to his family, thanks to the swift response of emergency services.
