LAOIS has the second lowest Covid-19 rate in Ireland, according to today’s figures.
The daily national report, released at 5.30pm today, shows that Laois comes 25th out of the 26 counties in terms of virus incidence. Only Wexford has a lower rate.
The 14-day incidence of the disease in Laois is 60.2 per 100,000 people, a big drop from 80.3 yesterday. The national incidence is 109.1.
Just a week ago, on Sunday 15 November, Laois had the tenth highest Covid-19 incidence nationally at 131.1. The county had 51 cases during the 14 days up to midnight last night.
Today’s figures also show that Laois had fewer than five new cases yesterday. The exact figure will be available tomorrow evening, when the county breakdown is updated.
Laois has had 950 confirmed Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began almost nine months ago.
Nationally, one death and 318 new cases of the virus were announced today. The death toll has reached 2,023, with total cases at 70,461. The vast majority of people have recovered from the infection.
As of 2pm today, 282 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised, including 31 in ICU. There have been 17 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.
