A MAN who allegedly put a woman into a headlock before sexually assaulting her appeared at Portlaoise District Court last Thursday.
The 27-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victim, was charged with sexual assault at a location in Laois, on 21 August last year.
Sgt JJ Kirby said it was alleged that the accused man called to the woman’s house, intoxicated and soaking wet. She allowed him in and offered him dry clothes and food and left him alone in a room. When she returned he was in a highly agitated state, throwing food around.
He asked the woman for a hug. When she refused, he allegedly got her in a headlock before he touched her breasts and vagina through her clothes.
The woman bit him on the hand and he released his grip, allowing her to run upstairs where she locked herself in the bathroom and called gardaí.
After hearing the outline of the alleged facts, Judge Catherine Staines ruled that the case was too serious to be heard in the district court and she refused jurisdiction.
The matter was adjourned to 4 February next year, for service of a book of evidence for a trial in a higher court.
