THERE was a big drop in Laois Covid-19 rates today, with only six new cases reported.
The low increase, following a series of surges, brings the county’s 14-day virus incidence to 722.6 per 100,000 people today, down from 742.6 yesterday.
The county’s virus incidence is also well below the average national rate of 1,162.2 per 100,000.
There were 612 new Covid infections in Laois during the 14 days up to midnight last night.
Nationwide, nine deaths and 4,842 confirmed cases were reported today, bringing the death toll to 2,336 and cases to 140,727 since the pandemic began.
As of 2pm today, 1,293 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of whom 119 are in ICU. There were 102 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.
