Centenarian Mary O’Byrne surrounding by staff at Abbeyleix Hospital as she celebrates her 100th birthday and having escaped the Coronavirus. Mary, who is originally from Timahoe, was the centre of attention as staff and family helped her to blow out the candles on her centenary birthday cake. Local parish priest Fr Paddy Byrne celebrated a special Mass in Mary’s honour at the hospital, which, incidentally, was the first Mass to be said in the hospital, since last March. The day was also a day of thanksgiving as the hospital celebrated not having one member of staff or resident being diagnosed with the coronavirus. All staff and residents have now being fully vaccinated against the deadly disease.
