CREATIVE Laois students are putting their thoughts into verse for a beautifully illustrated book of poetry.

Transition students at the National Learning Network in Portlaoise (NLNP) are producing wonderful poems and artwork for the exciting new project.

One of the poems composed by John Paul Killeen (above) explores the appreciation of happiness with thought and insight, as he says: “Without looking too in depth into the cause/Be happy, just because.”

As students continue to create poems and illustrations, NLNP posted a page from the book on their social media page and said: “So proud of our Transition Students who are working on a book of creative poems and artwork. Here is a beautiful poem composed by John Paul Killeen. Well done JP!”

Based on the Dublin Road, NLNP provides a range of free courses to people aged 16 to 65 who need extra supports either to gain employment or go on to further training. The centre is a hub of activity, giving students a comfortable, supportive, well resourced, friendly and relaxed environment.

The centre caters for a wide range of students, including people who have physical disabilities, had a setback in life due to illness or injury, mental health issues, learning difficulties, autism, addictions or left school early.
