THE A&E unit at Portlaoise hospital is “very busy” and there are considerable delays, as a result of the national cybercrime attack on the health service, but patients can expect significant delays.
In an update yesterday, Monday 24 May, the Dublin Midland Hospitals Group (DMHG) said that emergency services are continuing in Portlaoise and are still open for all medical emergencies.
The latest update on Portlaoise states: “Our EDs are very busy because of the IT outage. Expect significant delays. Please only attend if you need urgent care.”
Services that have been cancelled at Portlaoise hospital include outpatient radiology appointments and some elective inpatient procedures. These patients are being contacted by the hospital.
The DMHG says all patients should attend their appointments as scheduled, unless they hear otherwise from the hospital. Patients can expect some delays due to the ongoing issue.
The DMHG update on Portlaoise says: “Patients are being contacted by the hospital. The HSE asks that patients who are attending our hospital bring with them their most recent hospital letter. Patients attending for antenatal or maternity should also bring their combined antenatal card or patient number. You can contact the hospital on 057 8696771 or 057 8696340 if you have any query.”
