THE news that every GAA club follower in Laois has been awaiting has broken. Get out the club colours, shake the dust off the club flags, championship football and hurling is returning on the first weekend in August, that’s in just over three weeks time and.

Initially it is the unfinished 2020 championships that will be accommodated and they are the Senior and Junior ‘B’ football championships plus the Senior and Premier Intermediate hurling championships are still to be completed. The latter three are all at the finals stage while the Senior football semi-finals have still to be contested.

The action will recommence of Friday 6 August with the first of the senior football semi-finals between Emo and Graiguecullen.

The following day, Saturday 7 August the second football semi-final, Ballyfin v Portarlington will be played. Rounding off the weekend on Sunday August 8 Graiguecullen and Spink will take on each other to decide the destination of the Junior ‘B’ football championship.

The following weekend three county finals will be played.

On Friday 13 August the Premier Intermediate hurling final between Portlaoise and The Harps will be played. The Senior hurling final on Saturday 14 August will see the title resting either with Borris/Kilcotton or Clough/Ballacolla.

The 2020 championship final will be wrapped on Sunday 15 August with the playing of the Senior football final .

And looking that bit further ahead, this years Senior Hurling Championship will commence on Thursday 26 August. A week later, Thursday 2 September will see the start of the Senior Football Championship.
