Mountmellick Poet Laureate Dr Arthur Broomfield

MOUNTMELLICK will be showcased nationwide tomorrow night, when RTÉ cameras arrive in the town.

The Nationwide team will visit as part of Culture Night, when Mountmellick will celebrate its rich textile heritage.

During a week when the area is alive with verse as one of only 20 poetry towns in Ireland, Mountmellick Poet Laureate Arthur Broomfield will read excerpts from his specially commissioned poem about Mountmellick and its Quaker textile history.

The programme will also feature Marie from the town’s newly renovated Embroidery Museum, who can’t wait to welcome the public back through their doors.

Meanwhile, a local photographer will unveil previously unseen photographs he took on the day the Mountmellick Textiles Factory closed forever.

Nationwide airs at 7pm on Friday 17 September RTÉ One.
