THE Meitheal team at St Mary’s CBS is proving to be a wonderful support to the first-year students who are transitioning from primary to secondary school.
It is composed of some of the school’s finest sixth-year students Jack Spillane, Niall Kirby, Ben Lalor, Michael Rigney, Daire McDonald, David O’Brien, Jason Alade, Thomas Conroy, Jordan Percy, Dara Phelan, Mark Kelly, DJ White and Eoin McCormack O’Brien.
These students applied and interviewed with Robert Nortan, who is the Meitheal coordinator for the Kildare and Leighin diocese.
The 2020 and 2021 Meitheal crews are particularly impressive, as they missed the serious fun that is normally a residential week of training in Castletown.
In August, the Meitheal team organised for all first-years to attend an induction day in which the students got a tour of the building and all its facilities. They also engaged in an afternoon of icebreaker gamers and activities, which allowed them to bond with their peers.
Many students have fond memories of how well the Meitheal team looked after them when finding their feet in first-year. They can usually be found in or around the first-year locker area, chatting and helping students settle into their new setting and they are currently planning a surprise treat. Watch out first-years.
