A total of €22,290 has been allocated to five groups in Laois promoting integration.

Welcoming the announcement Offaly based Green Party Minister of State for Land Use and Biodiversity and Senator Pippa Hackett welcomed the announcement that was made by her party colleague Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Roderic O’Gorman.

Minister O’Gorman announced that 111 community projects nationwide will receive €500,000 in funding under the Communities Integration Fund.

The funding will go towards supporting local community-based organisations across Ireland to play a greater role in welcoming and integrating migrants and refugees.

Commenting on the Laois groups who received funding, Junior Minister Hackett said: “Integration is key to building community and we have some wonderful people in Laois working to enhance that connection. I’m delighted to see €22,290 going to five projects in this county.”

The groups to receive the final support are Laois Integration Network (€2,300). Mountrath Community Forum – Taste of the World (€5,000). Mountrath Scout Group – Midlands Scouts Link-Up Part 2 (€5,000). Laois Partnership – Active citizenship of migrant communities (€4,990) and Laois Africa Support Group LASG – Work Placement for young adults (€5,000).
