WATER supply has been restored to all properties in Mountmellick but reservoir levels are taking some time to recover, following a pump breakdown.
In an update today, Irish Water said the borehole pump at Straboe Well which broke down yesterday has been successfully replaced.
However, it will take time for network pressure and reservoir levels to return to normal in Mountmellick and surrounding areas.
Homes, businesses and other premises had no water supply since mid-afternoon on Sunday until this morning. While water was restored to most properties by 10am today, it was late afternoon before some customers had a fully functioning supply.
In a statement this afternoon, Irish Water said: “The pump is now fully operational and reservoir levels are starting to recover. Levels will take some time to restore completely and for network pressure to return to normal during the course of the day.
“Water supply is now restored to all affected properties but some customers may experience airlocks in their internal plumbing.”
Anyone who still has problems with the water supply or who needs advice on dealing with airlocks should check the ‘How to check for and clear internal airlocks’ section on www.water.ie.
Irish Water’s customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact Twitter @IWCare with any queries.
The statement added: “Irish Water and Laois County Council regret any inconvenience caused.”
