In the present age of technology, the Christmas lights in Portlaoise will be remotely switched on, on Friday night 26 November.

Santa will have the honour of flicking the switch at 9pm on The Downtown Portlaoise Facebook page at 9pm with the effect of flooding the town with Christmas lighting and seasonal atmosphere.

The switching on of the lights will be the prelude to the Portlaoise Market which takes place on Sunday along the town’s Main Street from 11am to 5pm.

A large number of stallholders selling a variety of products, handmade crafts and homemade produce will line the street from the Top (Market) Square right along down to the Lower Square.

For the duration of the market traffic movement will be restricted from entering Main Street, Church Street, Bull (Coliseum) Lane and Railway Street to facilitate the safety of people attending the market.

A Covid officer as well as private security personal will also be on hand to ensure a safe and enjoyable day for all.
