The car driven by an unaccompanied learner, who was arrested in Portlaoise last night

A LEARNER driver who was arrested in Portlaoise last night is facing a litany of traffic charges.

Members of the Laois Road Policing Unit were on patrol in the town when they stopped the unaccompanied learner.

The car had no NCT and the tax had expired 878 days ago, or about two-and-half-years.

The driver also failed a roadside drug test and was arrested, after showing a positive reading for cannabis.

The car was towed away from the scene and court proceedings have commenced against the culprit.
