DESPITE the times that are in it, the annual St Stephen’s Day 5km event held by Portlaoise Athletic Club in aid of the Cuisle Centre went ahead this year, but once again in a very different way.

Before Covid 19 turned the world on its head almost 22 month ago, Portlaoise people of all ages have got out to walk, run or jog the off Christmas Day excesses on St Stephen’s day in aid of the Cuisle Centre.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic changed that last year, and again this year.

The runners completed the normal route in small groups under strict Covid guidelines between 10am and 1pm on St Stephen’s Day.

More than ever the Cuisle Centre needed all our support this year,” said Aengus Burke.

And that is exactly what the participants did, raising an incredible €2,200 on the day.

Brilliant work and well done to everyone who took part and/or donated to this very worthy cause,” added Aengus.

Happy New Year to everyone and hopefully 2022 will bring better times,” concluded Aengus.
